HYDERABAD, Nov 13: Four union council nazims have accused District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil of discriminating against Sindhi-speaking areas of Hyderabad (rural) and Qasimabad talukas.

Speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad press club on Saturday evening, UC nazims of Qasimabad taluka Mehboob Abro, Deedar Shoro, Yamin Soomro and Parvez Ranjha alleged that it was due to the district nazim that the historic ladies club’s building is being handed over to the builders mafia.

They said that the managing director of WASA, Mr Shaukat Hayat Bhutto, has been removed from his post because he was a Sindhi.

They said that Mr Bhutto was removed on account of drowning of a child, Bakhat Ali Lashari, in a gutter and the main responsibility lay on shoulders of the director general of the HDA.

They also took exception to suspension of SHO Ghazanfar Shah and Wasa SDO Zulfiqar Arain in the above case.

The UC nazims regretted that nazims of Qasimabad and Hyderabad rural talukas were not invited to attend a meeting convened by the district nazim.

They said the Hyderabad Development Package was to be distributed at the taluka level but the district nazim had announced that it would now be distributed at UCs level.

They expressed surprise on the appointment of Kafeel Ahmed Khanzada as the MD Wasa though he was an accused in the contaminated water supply case in which 50 people had died.

They demanded that the DG HDA be removed, SHO Ghazanfar should be reinstated, all manholes in Qasimabad taluka be covered and other problems be resolved.

They demanded that the discrimination against two Sindhi talukas should be ended.

It may be mentioned that the builders’ mafia was behind the merger of Sindhi-speaking Malir district into the city district government and the division of Hyderabad into four districts to grab more and more real estate.
