KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Sunday took out a protest march against “massive hike in prices of petroleum products” and described the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government as a continuation of “corrupt past rulers” in the name of so-called ‘change’.

A large number of people from all walks of life participated in the march that started from Bait ul Mukarram Masjid on University Road and culminated on Hassan Square.

The participants were carrying placards and banners and chanting slogans against the federal government and its policies.

Addressing the rally, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said that a “gang of thugs comprising sugar and flour mafias” was ruling over the country.

He said that the PTI government was destroying the country while Prime Minister Imran Khan insisted that the regime was eliminating corruption. He asked the prime minister to justify the skyrocketing inflation when the premier himself had claimed that the indicators of economy had improved and the exports had increased.
