ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit and his delegation during their two-day visit to Pakistan signed an agreement with Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) to open Rawal International University Dominica in the Caribbean Island.

The prime minister and his delegation also visited Rawal College of Medicine and Dentistry at PIES Complex Islamabad where a reception was hosted in their honour.

The event was marked to celebrate the opening of Rawal International University Dominica in the Caribbean Island, a joint venture of Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) Islamabad and the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The prime minister, who is also a health expert, during his address stated that he had special interest in health education and further mentioned that Dominica realised the importance of the Rawal International University Dominica.

He also furthered his commitment for the project.

During the reception proceedings, Prof Rubina Mumtaz presented a brief history of educational institute.

In her welcome note, the Co-Chairperson of RIHS Saleha Khaqan highlighted the interest and confidence shown by the Dominican government in this new educational initiative.

Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Islamabad Prof Dr Tanwir Khaliq highlighted the importance of medical education especially in the context of pandemic like Covid-19.

He also appreciated and commended the role of medical colleges in producing high quality health professionals in offering equal opportunity for health services to all communities alike.

In the end the Chairman Khaqan Waheed Khawaja thanked the prime minister and his delegation for visiting RIHS and ensured that with the knowledge, skills and experience his team will succeed in establishing Rawal International University Dominica.
