Bigger issues

Published October 8, 2021

AFTER the Green Line project, the federal government has started talking about the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) at an estimated cost of Rs250 billion, whereas the Sindh government is already working on the revival of the existing KCR and has reportedly revived and made a large track operational.

Further, the federal government has been trying to convince the Sindh government to reconsider its decision about the Bundal Island. But it is hard to understand as to why the federal government is not keeping its focus on Karachi’s prime issues that include, among others, repair of roads, installation of streetlights, improving law and order situation and disposal of garbage in a satisfactory manner.

No doubt the KCR is an important project, but in the presence of the existing KCR, the launching of a similar project does not seem logical. There are other smaller projects which will give bigger relief to the people. For instance, the KPT bridge, which is used for VVIP movement, needs immediate repair, but is not yet repaired despite letters having been written to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) chairman and the federal minister concerned.
