BAHAWALNAGAR: A man was arrested and six others were booked for misbehaving with women polio workers, torturing her male colleague and obstructing the government from polio vaccination in Mohalla Nizampura.

According to the first information report (FIR), registered with the B-Division police, a three-member polio team, consisting of Nasira Ali, Kinza and Sadaqat Ali Khan, was vaccinating children in Mohalla Nizampura, Bahwalnagar, on Friday. The team knocked at the door of Shehzad Masood’s house at about 12pm to vaccinate the children but Shehzad’s wife refused to get their children vaccinated.

As the team was busy convincing the woman standing outside the house, Shehzad, along with Muhammad Saeed, Pervez and three unidentified people, started beating Sadaqat. They allegedly tore off his clothes, threatened him of dire consequences and misbehaved with the women polio workers.

The B-Division police registered a case against six suspects on complaint of Sadaqat and arrested Shehzad.

On the other hand, Shehzad’s family rejected the allegations, telling Dawn that instead of a woman worker, a man, later identified as Sadaqat, had entered the house without getting permission. They said the women in the house raised alarm and asked him to get out of the house. They said Shehzad argued with Sadaqat and they started quarrelling. In the meantime, Saeed and other neighbours gathered and tried to settle the matter.

B-Division SHO Sajjad Ahmed said they were investigating the matter.

HONOUR KILLING: A youth shot his uncle dead allegedly in the name of honour.

According to police, Imran Baloch of Mcleod Ganj was suspicious that his uncle, Ahmed Baloch, had illicit relations with his wife and he was often in touch with her over the phone.

They said Imran asked his uncle several times to stay away from his wife but his warnings were ignored. On Sept 24, when Imran came to know that Ahmed had called his wife again, he met him in the Main Bazaar. Both of them exchanged harsh words and Imran shot Ahmed in the head before fleeing. Ahmed was rushed to the RHC Mcleod by the Rescue 1122 but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Later, Imran turned himself in with the weapon, confessing to committing the murder before the police. Mcleod Ganj police registered a case on the complaint of Ahmed’s brother, the other uncle of Imran.
