HARIPUR: A married woman was electrocuted in her home in the urban area of the district while her father blamed her in-laws for her death.

Police quoted Siraj Khan of Muhallah Babu as saying that his wife Attiya Bibi, 35, was washing clothes when she suffered severe electric shock from the faulty washing machine and died before she was shifted to hospital.

The father of the decease woman, Abdul Majeed Afridi, a retired police officer, contested the claim of his son-in-law by saying that his daughter was married to Siraj 15 years ago but was unhappy due to mistreatment by her in-laws.

He expressed her doubt that Attiya was electrocuted to death by her husband, his mother and brother. Police started investigation into the complaint after the autopsy of the woman’s body.

Meanwhile, two armed robbers deprived a woman of cash and valuables in the urban limits of city. Fazl Mahmood, a resident of Muhallah Munsifabad, told police that he was at his grocery shop when he received a telephone call from his wife at around 12 noon.

She told him that two armed robbers entered their home and made off with some gold jewellery worth hundreds of thousands, a mobile phone and Rs8,000 cash, after holding her at gunpoint.
