LAHORE, Nov 8: The final decision whether to send England captain Michael Vaughan back home or not due to his twisted right knee is most likely to be decided on Wednesday, England coach Duncan Fletcher told reporters on Tuesday.

“We are likely to get scan results anytime tonight that will enable us to make a final decision, hopefully tomorrow,” Fletcher said.

Fletcher explained that the scan had been sent to England where the medical staff was analysing it keeping in view a couple of knee injuries Vaughan suffered in 2002-03 and in 2004.

He elaborated that that it was difficult to determine the exact damage to Vaughan’s knee right now and he was waiting for the final report from UK.

Fletcher pointed out that he was thinking about Vaughan’s possible replacement in case of serious injury but the two possible candidates — Owais Shah and Robert Key — were not available.

“We were keen for Owais Shah, but he has had a knee operation while Robert Key has had a shoulder surgery,” Fletcher said.

Reuters adds: Injured England captain Michael Vaughan will travel with his team on Wednesday to Multan where the first Test against Pakistan is scheduled from Saturday.

“It has been decided he will be going to Multan where his knee injury will be reassessed,” a spokesman for the team told Reuters on Tuesday.

“There will be no further updates on his condition until we reach Multan,” he said.

“We have sent his reports by e-mail to medical experts in England and, hopefully, we should get a firm answer by tonight on his condition.”

Fletcher added the injury was the same as one which occurred before a test against New Zealand last year.

“The medical staff are rightly being careful not to give a prediction and we are waiting until we get news from the United Kingdom.”—Reuters
