ISLAMABAD: Heavy rain lashed Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Monday afternoon and broke the intensity of the hot weather conditions.

The rain/wind-thunderstorm continued for over half an hour and compelled commuters to stop under bridges to stay safe from falling trees and standing water on roads.

A large number of motorists and pedestrians took shelter under bridges on Islamabad Expressway and other roads till the intensity of the rain subsided.

A number of cars were stuck in rainwater in different sectors of the capital hindering the smooth flow of traffic.

The motorists also faced difficulties in moving ahead due to fallen branches of trees at a number of places.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain/wind-thundershower is also expected at isolated places in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and southeastern Sindh on Tuesday. Isolated heavy falls are also expected during the period.

According to the PMD, a westerly wave was affecting the upper and central parts of the country.

The rainfall (mm) recorded during the last 24 hours was: Islamabad (Golra 36mm, Zero Point 30mm, Airport 7mm, Saidpur 6mm, Bokra 1mm), Rawalpindi (Chaklala 30mm and Shamsabad 29mm).
