MULTAN: A Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA’s) cybercrime wing team has arrested four members of a gang for looting Rs100 million from the people in the name of forex trading.

FIA Deputy Director Ali Hashim told a press conference on Monday that suspects Zain, Sheroze Arshad, Usama Shaukat and Noor looted money from more than 100 people. Their ringleader, Muhammad Usman Ghani, is still at large.

He said accounts of the suspects had been frozen.

PROJECTS: Commissioner Dr Irshad Ahmad directed the authorities concerned to ensure the completion of two ongoing road schemes in the city within the stipulated period besides ensuring the quality.

During an inspection of the city roads, the commissioner said keeping in view the hardship of the citizens, work on ongoing schemes should be completed within the stipulated time.

Inspecting the quality and pace of work of the under-construction two-lane Mati Tal Road, the commissioner said the construction of the road would ease access to the under-construction civil secretariat.

“The availability of funds is being ensured for the early construction of the road,” he said.

Later on, the commissioner inspected the six-kilometer-long Sher Shah Bypass from N-70 to M-4 Motorway which is being constructed at the cost of Rs589.9 million. He was informed that the Mati Tal Road is being constructed at the cost of Rs951.1 million while a 4.8-kilometer-long portion of the bypass is near to complete from Khaad Factory to Women University Road.

INJURED: A police sub-inspector and his guard were injured after unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on a car showroom in Jahanian, Khanewal.

The gunmen riding three motorcycles opened fire at the showroom and injured SI Khalid Goraya and his guard Auarangzeb. The gunmen also looted Rs700,000 from a man who was in the showroom.

The injured were shifted to the Jahanian Tehsil Headquarters Hospital from where later they were shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan.

HELD: A team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested nine members of vaccination staff from the vaccination centres of Nishtar Hospital and Quaid-i-Azam Academy for Educational Development for tampering with records for making fake certificates for vaccination.

The staffers arrested at Nishtar Hospital included nurses Shumaila and Naveed, nursing student Shahzeena, junior clerk Ashraf, naib qasid Abdullah and civil defence employee Waseem while Quratul Ain, Shahzad and Ghulam Farid were arrested at the vaccination center of Quaid-i-Azam Academy for Educational Development.

FIA Assistant Director Muhammad Ali Hashmi said that the accused are being investigated. Nishtar Medical University Vice-Chancellor Dr Rana Altaf said that female nurses were released.
