ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: Pakistan Volleyball Federation(PVF) is in the final stages of having an Indian Punjab team compete in next month’s National Championship. Muhammad Afzal, secretary of the PVF said on Monday that they had asked the Indian officials to send in the names of the players so that the required formalities could be completed in time.

An Indian Punjab team has previously taken part in Pakistan’s National Championship and their participation, officials say, makes the event interesting and even more competitive.

“If the visiting side goes on to win the championship, the team finishing second would be declared the national champion,” Afzal said.

The National championship is to take place at the Liaquat Gymnasium here from Dec 3 to 9.

Meanwhile, Pakistan are keen on taking part in a Central Zone Championship in Sri Lanka in February-March. “We are waiting for intimation about the dates and we have already informed the organisers of our intentions to compete.”
