MANSEHRA: The police on Saturday arrested a man for kidnapping and raping a woman and her husband and two others for torturing him in Garhi Habibullah area.
District police officer Asif Bahadur suspended local station house officer Mohammad Tariq over negligence in the matter and tasked senior superintendent of police Janis Khan with holding an inquiry against him.
The DPO told reporters here that a resident along with three other kidnapped a local woman and her two minor children last week, kept her in Rawalpindi and Gujranwala, where she was sexually assaulted.
He said the woman fled from the custody of her kidnappers afterwards and her husband took her and their children home.
Mr Bahadur said the woman’s husband later picked up the suspected rapist, stripped and tortured him, and filmed the torture before releasing the video on social media. The video, which went viral on Friday night, showed the man with hands and feet fastened with a string lied stripped in a cattle pen. He was brutally tortured.
PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: Director of the Pakistan Studies Centre at the University of Peshawar Fakharul Islam visited the Helping Hand Institute of Rehabilitation Centre here on Saturday and appreciated the production of human resources for the field of prosthesis.
“I am much impressed with the way this institute is providing artificial limbs and other services to the people with disabilities on a large scale,” Dr Fakhar told a function at the HHIRS on Saturday.
He appreciated the institution upgrade plans and said it would become the first university in the field of rehabilitation not only in the country but also in the region.
Director of the institution Dr Bahadur Shah said the country direly needed such institutions to meet the shortage of human resources in the field of rehabilitation sciences.
Principal Dr Karamatullah said the graduates of the institute served the people with disabilities in different parts of the country.
