RAWALPINDI: A man who was allegedly shot and injured by Dolphin Force at Adiala Road on Wednesday died at the District Headquarters Hospital.

According to rescue services, Mohammad Liaquat, 35, a resident of Dhoke Lal Shah, Adiala Road, was shot in the head and at the right leg.

He was fired upon after he reportedly ignored the Dolphin Force’s signal to stop. However, the police claimed that the man was a drug seller and allegedly involved in a robbery and was injured during a cross-fire with the police.

Police also claimed that a pedestrian, identified as Farhan, was also injured during the shoot-out. However, none of the police officials was injured in the ‘encounter’.

The police said a Dolphin Force squad signalled a motorcyclist to stop on suspicion during night patrolling.

Instead of responding to the police, he ignored and sped away.

The police gave chase during which the suspect stopped at a vacant plot and called his accomplices and then started firing on the police, the spokesman claimed.

“During the exchange of fire, Liaquat was injured. The injured was shifted to hospital where he later died,” the spokesman said, adding a pedestrian was also injured due to the firing by the accused.

Meanwhile, a man was gunned down by an unidentified person at the Pirwadhai bus stand on Thursday.

Police said the deceased was identified as Mohammad Adnan, 30, a resident of Kohat. The motive behind the murder seemed to be an old enmity, police said, adding the body was shifted to hospital for a post-mortem.
