Strike in parts of Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Jan 23: Anti-India strike was observed in the Civil Lines area of Srinagar on Wednesday against arrest of young men in Maisuma, Sara-e-Bala, Maharaja Bazaar and Gonikhan areas here.

Large-scale demonstrations were held against this outrage. The troops resorted to tear-gassing and baton charge to disperse the demonstrators. Several of them were injured.

The APHC spokesman, quoting delegations, said the troops subjected women to violence during crackdown at Varno and Kuligam areas of Kupwara district. Several women were arrested, taken to military camp at Varno and subjected to torture. —APP
