HARIPUR: Senior journalist Mohammad Shahbaz passed away due to cardiac arrest in Ghazi tehsil, family sources said on Wednesday.

The deceased, 68, left behind a minor son and a widow to mourn his death. He was laid to rest in Khalo village graveyard.

Activists of political parties, including PML-N Senator Pir Sabir Shah, government officials, members of journalists’ community, former councillors and teachers attended the funeral prayers.

Mr Shahbaz had migrated from his native Gujrat district to Ghazi tehsil of Haripur when construction of Tarbela Dam started in the early 70s.

The deceased joined Urdu language daily Nawa-i-Waqt as correspondent and worked with it till his death.

He was president of Tarbela Press Club and also served Hazara Union of Journalists and Haripur Press Club in different capacities.
