LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent Asad Kharal, a television journalist, to jail on judicial remand in a case of ‘attacking’ police officials deputed for his security.

Kahna police produced the journalist before the court and sought his further remand to complete the investigation in the case.

However, the magistrate turned down the request and remanded Kharal in judicial custody.

The magistrate directed the police to submit its investigation report on Aug 10.

The police registered the FIR against Kharal on charges of holding the police personnel hostage, and attacking them with guns.

The police also recovered an official rifle from the custody of the journalist.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of head constable Ashfaq Ahmad under sections 353 (attacking a government servant), 342 (keeping a person in illegal detention), 324 (attempted murder) and 392 (dacoity) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

missing woman: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed the Raiwind police to recover a mother of four within seven days and produce her before the court.

Justice Anwarul Haq Pannun was hearing a habeas corpus petition of Parveen Fatima seeking the recovery of her daughter from the alleged illegal detention of the police.

The petitioner’s counsel stated that a police team barged into the house of Nasreen Bibi and took her away. He said there was no FIR against the woman but the police arrested her.

The counsel said the family of the woman approached the police, however, got no information about her whereabouts.

He said seven days had passed since the police violated the sanctity of the four walls and arrested the daughter of the petitioner without any case. He said the life of the detainee was in danger since she had been in illegal detention.

He asked the court to order the police to produce the woman and set her at liberty.

The judge directed the police to recover the alleged detainee and produce her before the court within seven days.

The family and the children of Nasreen Bibi also staged a protest demonstration outside the LHC demanding the police to release her. The children chanted slogans for the recovery of their mother.
