OKARA: Two women were raped by their close relatives in separate incidents in the district on Tuesday.

A man raped his daughter-in-law at village Killi Jaymal Singh in the jurisdictions of the Chuchak police station. Police booked the suspect on the report of the victim’s mother.

The second incident occurred at the village Cha Jailwala near Saddar Gogera where a man raped his cousin’s wife.

Gogera police have registered a case.

INJURED: A lawyer’s assistant was beaten up for trying to save a man who was being thrashed by more than a dozen people outside the family court premises at the District Complex.

As per FIR, registered by lawyer Ansar Javaid, he and his ‘munshi,’ identified as Adnan, were coming out of the court of judge Faiza Ashfaq when nearly a dozen people, carrying rods and sticks, started thrashing a litigant.

Ansar and Adnan intervened and tried to rescue the victim but the armed people started beating Adnan and left him injured.

The suspects started firing into the air. Other lawyers saved the complaint and his assistant and overpowered two of the suspects, Sattar and Ijaz. They were handed over to the Saddar police.

The arrested suspects revealed the names of their accomplices as Tahir, Ghulam Nabi, Rana Tariq and Arshad.
