SUKKUR: A policeman was killed and his colleague was wounded when a gang of bandits attacked their armoured personnel carrier (APC) in Habibullah Ogahi village in the riverine area of Ghotki on Wednesday.

Police said that the APC was on its way to Katcho Bindi area to take part in ongoing operation against dacoits hiding in the area when it came under attack.

The dead body and the injured were shifted to Ghotki taluka hospital from where the body was handed over to heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities and the injured was moved to a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan for further treatment.

The martyred policeman was laid to rest in Ghotki after guard of honour by a police contingent. Sukkur DIG Hussain Mastoi and SSP of Ghotki attended the funeral.

The DIG told media persons that criminals were being cornered and vowed that the riverine area of Ghotki would soon be cleared completely of all outlaws.
