SWABI: A man on Saturday shot dead his mother over second marriage on the premises of the Swabi Judicial Complex, police and lawyers said.

The woman, staying in a Darul Aman, had come to the court of magistrate Amir Ali Afridi in connection with hearing of a case her son had filed after she solemnised second marriage some 25 days ago without his consent.

After the marriage, the court had directed that she should be shifted to the Darul Aman.

The woman, belonging to Naranji village, was sitting on a bench when she was attacked.

“She was shot in the head and died on the spot,” said a policeman, who examined the body.

The Rescue 1122 personnel shifted the body to the Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, for autopsy.

Hearing the gunshots, people ran for cover in the high security zone.

The police arrested the alleged killer, identified as Hameed Khan, and seized the pistol used in the attack.

Following the incident, the lawyers held an emergency meeting presided over by Swabi bar association president Daniyal Khan, and condemned the security breach.

“It was really astonishing that the killer managed to cross the main gate where the security remains tight,” he said.
