GUJRANWALA: A matriculation student was found shot dead in the sitting room of his house in Kamoki early on Wednesday.

The family members woke up to the sound of gunfire and saw the body of Anees lying in the drawing room with blood on his chest. Superintendent of Saddar Police Abdul Wahab and Kamoki DSP Hashim Gujjar rushed to the spot and collected evidence.

The police officers told reporters the door of the sitting room was also opened.

The police are examining different angles of the case.

PROBE: The deputy commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the alleged embezzlement by three building inspectors of the metropolitan corporation.

The officials allowed dozens of people to construct commercial buildings without getting no-objection certificates (NoCs) against bribe from the owners. The corporation faced a revenue shortfall of Rs110 million.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Sohail Khwaja has asked Chief Municipal Officer Qamar Islam to get the matter probed.

ACCIDENT: Twenty passengers were seriously injured in a road accident on Wednesday near Gakhar Mandi on GT Road.

According to Rescue 1122, a van was going to the fruit market Gujranwala. Near Bangla Abdai on GT Road, a truck heading from Rawalpindi to Lahore hit the van from behind.

As a result of which the van overturned where Shafeeq Husain, Kashif Bhatti, Ghulam Haider, Boota and 16 other passengers were seriously injured and shifted to the Gujranwala DHQ Hospital.

The drivers of both vehicles escaped and the police impounded the vehicles.
