KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested the owner of an online marketing company over charges of money laundering and hundi, a senior officer said on Wednesday.

The FIA’s arrest of Abdul Rauf Isa was confirmed by FIA Sindh director Amir Farooqi.

The held suspect, his two sons and others were allegedly involved in smuggling of mobile phones as well as payments of goods through hawala/hundi. Mr Isa and his sons have been running this illegal business by using his employees’ benami/forged accounts, it was claimed.

One such forged account showed transactions of over Rs400 million from 2013 to 2016.

The FIA claimed the suspects were involved in this fraud in connivance with bank officials and were causing huge financial losses to the exchequer.

Shopkeeper shot dead

A 25-year-old shopkeeper was shot dead in an Al-Falah locality on Wednesday.

Area SHO Rashid Din said Waqas was standing outside his shop in Golden Town when armed motorcyclists came and opened fire on him and fled.

He suffered critical wounds on his chest and died on the spot.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The police ruled out possibility of robbery behind the murder saying the suspects didn’t take away anything.

The officer expressed the view that the murder might be the result of some personal issue.

Teenager gunned down

A teenager was shot dead in SITE area on Wednesday.

Police said that Ramesh Kumar Albela, 18, was gunned down in Metroville, Block-4.

Area SHO Ayaz Khan claimed that the murder appeared to be an outcome of personal enmity.

He added that the victim’s relatives had nominated one suspect, Nawab Pashoo, in the murder case.

The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Man shot dead, brother wounded

A young man was shot dead while his younger brother was wounded in Sohrab Goth on Wednesday, said police.

They added that Ahmad Gul, 22, was killed while his brother Ikram, 20, seriously wounded.

Area SHO Mehboob Illahi said the victim’s father, Saleem Khan, told the police that they had borrowed Rs30,000 from their relatives.

They demanded their money back on Wednesday. During the heated arguments, the relatives allegedly killed one brother and injured another and fled.

The body and the wounded youth were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the condition of the injured person was stated to be serious.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old man was gunned down in Baghdadi area on Wednesday evening, according to police. They added that Ali Bux was killed by armed pillion riders at Mohammadi Mohalla, Street No 3 near Maqbool Masjid.

The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for legal proceedings. Area SHO Abdul Ghaffar Shah said the motive was being ascertained.
