BAJAUR: The district administration on Wednesday banned pillion riding and announced to take strict action against underage drivers, especially during Eid holidays, to save lives of the road users.
According to a statement, the restrictions were approved by deputy commissioner Mohammad Fayyaz Khan to control road mishaps in the region which had increased during Ramazan.
It has been noted by the district police officer that road accidents have increased in the district.
The statement said that the restrictions were imperative to save the lives of residents as the chances of road accidents increased during Eid days.
It said the administration had imposed section 144 to ban pillion riding across the district which would remain effective from May 5 to 16.
It said that any person(s) contravening the order shall render himself or themselves, whatever the case may be, liable to punishment under the section 188 of Pakistan Penal Code. Besides seizing the vehicle, if any underage driver was caught his father would also be detained to face legal action, it said.
According to a statement issued by the DPO office, scores of police personnel have been deployed across the district to check the underage driving and pillion riding.
