PESHAWAR: The district administration arrested 167 shopkeepers for overcharging and selling substandard food items during raids in different bazaars here on Friday. Those arrested also include butchers, nanbais and milk sellers.

Shahab Ali Shah, principal secretary to the chief minister, also visited Ramazan sasta bazaars and checked prices and quality of essential commodities.

During the visits he appreciated the efforts of the district administration for provision of daily use commodities on subsidised rates. He directed the relevant officials for taking further steps to facilitate the people.

Peshawar deputy commissioner Khalid Mahmood and other officials of the district administration were also present on the occasion.

According to a statement issued by the deputy commissioner, five sasta bazaars had been set up in addition to 50 mobile shops to provide essential commodities to people on subsidised prices.

The DC said that officials of the district administration were regularly visiting the bazaars to ensure display of official price list and take action against the profiteers and those selling substandard food items.

Meanwhile, following a complaint raised by the locals at an open kutcheri at Qamar Din Ghari regarding cleanliness drive and maintenance of CCTV cameras and chlorine spray at the shrine of Rahman Baba at Hazar Khwani, additional deputy commissioner (relief) Peshawar, Mohammad Imran Khan visited the shrine along with WSSP in-charge Riffatullah and concerned staff.

He met with in-charge of the mazar, Fazal Amin Afridi, and directed the concerned staff for ensuring cleanliness of all the sections of the shrine, including Mehman Khana, Langer Khana and library on daily basis. He also asked the officials for repair of CCTV cameras at the earliest.
