KARACHI: Hasan Shahriar, a leading journalist, columnist and political analyst of Bangladesh, passed away in Dhaka on Saturday, according to information reaching here. He was 74.

Mr Shahriar had also served as a staff reporter in Dawn and Evening Star in the sixties before moving to Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, he worked as the first executive director of dailies Iteefaq and Sun, besides representing many international wire services.

Hasan Shahriar, a known political analyst on the South Asian region, had the privilege of interviewing many international political personalities.

He was honoured with the title of International President Emeritus of the Toronto-based Commonwealth Journalists Association.

An active member of the Karachi Press Club, Hasan Shahriar left a wide circle of friends to mourn his death.
