HARIPUR: The district administration has placed 58 localities of Haripur under smart lockdown for seven days over a spike in coronavirus cases.

The lockdown orders were issued by deputy commissioner Nadeem Nasir on the recommendation of the district health officer.

Sources in the DHO’s offices told Dawn that the district had recorded 3,238 coronavirus cases and 307 of them were active until Thursday, while 2,871 had recovered from the infection.

They said of the active cases, 14 were admitted to the Corona Ward of the district headquarters hospital; 217 were quarantined at home, and 80 were under treatment in different private hospitals.

The sources said 60 deaths from coronavirus had so far been reported in the district.

Meanwhile, the DHQ hospital has increased number of beds in the Corona Ward from 21 to 31 in the wake of a surge in the virus incidence during the third wave.
