ISLAMABAD: The twin cities saw a decline in Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, but the casualty rate remained high as 12 deaths were reported.

Islamabad saw four deaths while nine patients succumbed to the virus in the garrison city.

The officials of the capital administration said that 564 new cases were reported on Wednesday compared to 659 on Tuesday.

During the last 24 hours, 6,722 tests were conducted in the capital, out of which tests of 302 men and 262 women came back positive. The positivity rate remained at 8.39pc compared to 8.79pc the previous day.

The death toll from Covid-19 in the capital has reached 588, after four more deaths were reported on Wednesday, the officials said.

Two of them were residents of G-11 and one each were from G-8 and Tarnol, the officials said.

On Wednesday, 45 cases were reported from Bhara Kahu, followed by 36 from Bahria Town, 31 from Tarlai, 23 each from G-10, Chak Shahzad, 20 each from Margalla Town, G-11, DHA II, 19 each from G-9, F-8, 17 each from G-6, G-13, 16 each from I-9, F-7, 15 each from I-8, Ghouri Town, F-11, 14 each from G-7, F-10, E-11, 13 from G-8, 11 each from I-10, Alipur, nine from F-6, eight each from Kornag Town, Khanna, seven each from PWD, I-12, six each from Sohan, NPF, Jhangi Syedan, H-8, D-17, five each from Soan Garden, Shahzad Town, River Garden, G-5, Media Town, four each from Sihala, Rawal Town, Naval Anchorage and D-12, they said.

The number of active cases in Islamabad stands at 11, 341, the officials said, adding that since the outbreak 62,775 people have tested positive in capital.

Twin cities see decline in cases

Rawalpindi

As many as nine people died from Covid-19 while 171 patients tested positive for the deadly virus in the garrison city.

Mohammad Arif, 60, resident of Gulraiz Phase-II, was shifted to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on March 29 where he died on Wednesday.

Ghazanfar Ali, 64, resident of Gujar Khan, died on Wednesday at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology where he was brought to on April 1.

Zubaida Adalat, 75, resident of Lalazar, was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on April 2 where she succumbed to the virus on Wednesday.

Ali Haider, 64, resident of Jan Colony, lost his battle against the virus on Wednesday at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology where he arrived on April 4.

Rukhsana Bibi, 75, resident of Mohallah Iqbalabad, was shifted to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on April 5 where she breathed her last on Wednesday.

Mohammad Farooq, 88, resident of Rehmanabad, died on Wednesday at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology where he was brought to on April 5.

Zaitoon Bibi, 75, resident of Dhoke Khabba, died on Tuesday night at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences where she was shifted to on April 6.

Shahbaz Khan, 52, resident of Chamanzar Colony, died on Wednesday at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences where he was brought on April 6.

Maula Dad, 80, resident of Gujar Khan, died on Wednesday at Isolation Hospital and infectious Treatment Centre where he was shifted to on April 6.

A total of 171 patients were reported from the district while 132 from the garrison city including 54 patients from Cantonment and 42 from Potohar Town and 36 from Rawal Town areas.

From the other parts of the district, seven arrived from Gujar Khan, four from Taxila, one from Murree, 10 from Kallar Syedan and two from Kahuta, nine from Islamabad, two from AJK and one each from Abbottabad, Jhelum, Mianawali and Gujrat.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that there are 31 patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 115 are on Oxygen and 76 are stable.

He said so far 38,538 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in the district and 17,683 health workers got vaccination while 25855 senior citizens administered vaccination.
