KARACHI: A transgender person was shot dead in Korangi on Monday, according to police.

They added that 65-year-old M. Siddique alias Mumtaz was killed in his Gulshan-i-Latif house.

Awami Colony SHO Humayun Ahmed Khan said that the victim was the ‘guru’ of transgender persons in the area. He was sitting along with three others in the house when armed pillion riders emerged there. One of them stayed outside while the second one entered the house, fired two shots after confirming Mumtaz’s identity and rode away, he said.

He suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.

The officer said an initial probe suggested that the murder appeared to be an outcome of some “jealousy”.
