KASUR: Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas during his visit here on Wednesday kept himself aloof from the ‘controversy’ of establishing a university at Kasur district headquarter instead of a rural area of Chunian tehsil.

Talking to the media, Mr. Raas said he would talk to the education authorities regarding establishing a university.

It merits mentioning that Population Minister retired Col Hashim Dogar had got Kasur university sanctioned from Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in Chunian tehsil. Buzdar was scheduled to announce it but could not do so as he cancelled his visit at the eleventh hour a few days back.

Meanwhile, residents of Kasur city objected to the plan and demanded establishment of the university in the city.

On Wednesday, the education minister visited DHQ Hospital, corona vaccination centre, land record centre and B-Division police station. The minister did not visit any educational institution. The district administration briefed him about local issues.

ARRESTED: Pattoki police on Wednesday arrested 16 guests, including the bridegroom, on charges of jubilation firing and violation of Covid SOPs at a wedding event at a private housing society.

Police also claimed to have recovered illegal weapons from the suspects.

Reports said bridegroom Ahmed had also arranged showers of rose petals and currency notes through a helicopter without seeking any permission from the respective authorities.

Police said they received information that some people were allegedly resorting to celebratory fire and flouting Covid protocol at the wedding event of Khalil Ahmed at Insaf Housing Society. Police raided the wedding function and arrested as many as 16 guests.

Police have registered a criminal case against the bridegroom on the complaint of ASI Ghulam Rasool and started investigations.

Robbery murder: Robbers gunned down a woman and injured two of her sons on Wednesday at Dhala Kalan in Kot Radha Kishan police precincts.

According to police, Tariq, 28, along with his mother Anwari Bibi, 55, and brother Muzammal, 15, was on his way to Lahore from their village Wasan Singh. Near Dhala Kalan, four suspects tried to stop their car.

Tariq did not stop the vehicle as a result the suspects opened fire. Anwari Bibi succumbed to her injuries before being shifted to hospital. Rescue 1122 rushed the injured to THQ Hospital from where they were referred to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital. Further investigation is underway.
