BAHAWALPUR: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday handed down death sentence and life imprisonment on two counts (each) along with a fine toa man who raped and murdered a minor girl in Bahawalpur tehsil in November 2019.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Imran raped the eight-year-old girl and murdered her.

The Nowshehra Jadid police on the complaint of the victim’s father lodged an FIR under sections 376 and 364-A PPC and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1987. The police after hectic efforts arrested the accused whose challan was submitted to the ATC.

ATC judge Nasir Hussain handed down death sentence on two counts under section 302 PPC for her murder and life imprisonment on two counts along with a fine of Rs500,000 under section 364-A for her kidnapped rape.

The judge ordered that the amount of fine be paid as compensation to the legal heirs of the victim.

In case of default of fine, he would have to undergo another six-month imprisonment.
