SUKKUR: A gang of three armed men, said to be extortionists, attacked the house of a police constable leaving one of the residents wounded and set it afire in Sardar Golo village of Tangwani town in Kandhkot-Kashmore district late on Thursday evening.

Constable Farooq Golo told local reporters that the gang led by Barkat Dahani had long been asking him for protection money but he was unable to arrange the heavy amount demanded by the gang. On Thursday evening, Dahani along with his two associates opened indiscriminate fire at his house leaving his one family member, Shaukat Golo, wounded. The gang then set his house on fire and fled the area. He said Shaukat was admitted to hospital.

Officials from the Tangwani police station visited the house and collected evidence after the affected family held a protest against the attack.

Villagers protest

Residents of Kajlo Khan Malghani village, located in Garhi Khero taluka of Jacobabad district, held a protest against Tajo Dero police for not registering an FIR against some influential persons who attacked and seriously injured their relatives, Ghulam Rasool and Taj Mohammad, for stopping them from chopping down the latter’s trees.

They told reporters outside the Jacobabad Press Club that they had been visiting the police station for more than a week but to no avail. They named three of the suspects as Niaz Ahmed, Israr Ahmed and Ali Nawaz Malghani.
