OKARA: The Syndicate of University of Okara (UO), chaired by Punjab Higher Education Minister Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz, approved conversion of Samadpura campus of the university into a residential complex for women faculty and MPhil and PhD scholars.
Dr Muhammad Tahir Khan joined as the registrar of the university after approval of Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.
VC Professor Dr Muhammad Zakaria Zakir welcomed the new registrar, saying that the residential complex was necessary for women teachers.
He thanked the provincial government, especially the higher education minister, for supporting the newly-established university.
CHARAS SEIZED: The Saddar police seized 36kg charas from two drug peddlers.
Police, on a tip-off, intercepted a Lahore-bound car on the highway. As the car stopped, the driver and his accomplices tried to escape but they were caught by police.
Police found 36kg charas and Rs5,000 cash from the suspects, identified as Muhammad Awais and Kalimullah of Quetta. The car was impounded and a case was registered against them.
STRANGLED: A man strangled his daughter for refusing to go back to her in-laws’. Allah Muafi was staying with her parents at Chak 19/1-R after quarreling with her husband. A member of the family of her in -laws reached the village for reconciliation but she refused to go back.
At this, her father, Sarwar, strangled her to death and escaped. The Satgrah Police Station registered a case.
