SWABI: A fire destroyed a number of trees in the famous Mahaban Mountain in the Gadoon Amazai belt before it was brought under control by the firefighters early on Saturday.

Rescue 1122 officials said that the fire started on Friday night and continued till early Saturday, adding the blaze raged on due to fast blowing wind and dry bushes.

The blaze forced the district administration to call the fire brigade from the neighbouring Mardan district.

“The firefighters battled the flames and were able to prevent it from spreading to more areas,” said Luqman Khan, a Rescue 1122 official.

He said the firefighters and Rescue 1122 staff brought the fire under control early on Saturday, but not before it had burnt down precious trees.

He said that cause of the fire was not known.
