BAJAUR: Two children were killed and five other people injured when a pick-up vehicle fell into a ditch in Barang tehsil of Bajaur district, Rescue 1122 officials and residents said on Sunday.

They said the accident occurred in the Silai Pati area in the limits of Barang police station bordering Malakand district on Saturday night.

The vehicle was travelling from Malakand district to Silai Pati when its driver lost control of it while negotiating a sharp turn near Silai Pati Bridge, causing it to plunge into the ditch, said Amjad Khan, the head of Rescue 1122 station in Khar, while quoting residents. He said that two children, identified as four-year-old Abshar Bibi and four-month-old Hayan Khan, died on the spot, while five other people were injured.

The injured were identified as Rahmania Bibi, 41, Madina, 30, Basweer, 38, Halima, 3, and Gulbahar, 36.

The injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Dargai, Malakand.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Kohi area of Salarzai tehsil on Saturday night.

Police and residents said on Sunday that Asadullah was returning home from a nearby place when the assailants opened fire on him.

He sustained multiple bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to the hospital, said DSP Abdul Aziz.

The official said the attackers fled the scene after the shooting. He added that police had launched an investigation to ascertain the motive behind the killing and trace those responsible.
