Changes in Larkana PPP likely

LARKANA, Oct 15: In the backdrop of poor performance in local bodies polls, the central leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party has decided major reshuffle in Sindh chapter of the party.

Sources told Dawn here that Ms Benazir Bhutto had taken serious note of the local bodies election results and talked to the concerned PPP leaders posing questions on them about party’s dismal performance.

Differences within the party topped all the weaknesses, which ended up in erosion of the ground, sources said adding that changes were being contemplated even at provincial, district and even taluka level. Regarding poor show of the party in Larkana, the district president Ayaz Soomro had transmitted reports to Ms Bhuto in Dubai, discussing ifs and buts which led to the defeat.

She also talked to him over phone, the sources said, and claimed that Ayaz Soomro holding himself responsible for the poor show and tendered resignation as the district president of PPP.

The names of MPA Haji Munawar Ali Abbasi and former district nazim Khursheed Junejo, to become the next president of district head of the party, were figuring high.

Ayaz Soomro, however, avoided comments over the new scenario emerging after his resignation.

ARRESTED: Police on Saturday arrested Aslam Chandio, a peon of the Qambar Press club, for setting on fire the press club building.

Noor Ahmed Khoso, chairman of the executive committee of the QPC, said the peon had confessed to committing crime after stealing Rs10,000 from the table’s drawer only to hush up the incident.

He had handed over the stolen amount to police during interrogation, Mr Khoso said.
