HYDERABAD: Pakistan’s number one player and top seed Aqeel Khan made short work of qualifier Asif Bachani of Hyderabad in the first round of the men’s singles event to win 6-1, 6-1 at the Hyderabad Gymkhana Pakistan Day Men’s Tennis Championship on Friday.

Second seed Muzammil Murtaza of Jehaniayan Shah beat Karachi’s Nauman Aftab 6-3, 6-1 in a remarkable display while Heera Ashiq, Mudassir Murtaza, Shoaib Khan and Parbat Kumar also scored victories.

Men’s Singles (1st Round): Aqeel Khan beat Asif Bachani 6-1, 6-1; Heera Ashiq beat Hasheesh Kumar 6-2, 6-2; Abid Mushtaq beat Imran Bhatti 6-1, 6-2; Mudassir Murtaza beat Asadullah Khan (KP), 6-3, 7-6; Parbat Kumar beat Israr Gul 6-2, 4-3, rtd; Shoaib Khan beat Nadir Bachani 6-2, 6-3; Anas Khan ( wildcard) beat Ejaz Khan ( KP) 6-2, rtd; Muzammil Murtaza beat Nauman Aftab 6-3, 6-1.
