CHARSADDA/CHITRAL: Three people were killed and two others received injuries when a car, part of a wedding procession, ran over them after smashing a rickshaw and a motorcycle in Behlola area of Charsadda on Saturday.

According to Khanmai police station, the driver of the car could not control the speedy vehicle, which smashed a motorcycle and a rickshaw and then ran over some people standing along the road. As a result, two men and a woman were killed and two others, stated to be brothers, were injured.

Police registered a case and arrested the driver identified as Naseer. The deceased were identified as Zubeda, wife of Bakht Zaman, 11-yar-old Bilal, who worked at a blacksmith shop, and Sajid, 18.

Rescue-1122 personnel reached the spot soon after the accident and shifted the dead and injured to hospital.

Locals said that the deceased woman, Zubeba, had gone along with her son to a doctor for check-up and he was purchasing medicines from a shop when the incident occurred.

In Chitral, all the 12 passengers remained unhurt when a vehicle going to Laspur valley from Chitral fell into the river near Barenis village on Booni Road.

An eyewitness told Dawn that the vehicle skidded off the road as it was slippery due to continuous rain for the last three days. He said all the passengers and the driver managed to jump from the vehicle before it plunged into the ravine on the riverbank about 100 feet deep.

Meanwhile, vehicular traffic to a number of valleys including Terich, Oveer, Melp and Baroghil remained suspended due to landslide.
