GUJRAT: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) workers staged a protest demonstration in front of Gujrat Press Club against the PTI government’s policies on Saturday.

The workers and former lawmakers, mainly from the PML-N, PPP and JUI (F), gathered near Kutchery Chowk and marched to the press club while holding the banners and placards inscribed with the anti-government slogans.

Former PPP MNA Sameena Fakhar Pagganwala, former MPAs of PML-N Mian Tariq Mehmood, Shabeer Kotla and Haji Imran Zafar, PPP’s Dr Zahid Zaheer and JUI (F) Gujrat emir Maulana Muhammad Ilyas led the rally.

Some women party workers from the PPP were also among the participants in the demonstration.

Speaking to the participants, the PDM district leaders said the people had got tired of the poor economic policies and bad governance of the incumbent rulers who should accept their failure in resolving the issues being faced by the masses. They vowed to remain united on the platform of the PDM.

ARRESTED: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) claimed to have arrested the headmaster of a school as well as a patwari in two separate cases of graft on Saturday.

The ACE Gujrat circle in a raid arrested Chand Kamran, the headmaster of Government Riazuddin High School in Madina Syedan, and recovered Rs10,000 that he had received as bribe to approve an official form.

A case was lodged against him under sections 161 of PPC and 5/2/47 of the PCA and the circle office started an investigation.

In another raid, Patwari Muhammad Nazeer of Keeranwala circle was arrested with Rs20,000 that he had received from a citizen for the registration of a mutation.

The ACE registered a case against Nazeer and started an investigation into it.
