DACCA: Complete strike was observed in the city today [March 2] in response to the call given by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President of the Awami League[,] ... to protest against the postponement of the National Assembly session, which was to sit in Dacca tomorrow. A few departmental and readymade garment shops, and a wine shop were looted. Damage were also caused to a posh hostel. Meanwhile, a 10-hour curfew was imposed in the whole of Dacca municipal limits from 7 p.m. to 7a.m. every day from tomorrow until further orders. …In Dacca city numerous processions carrying lathis, sticks and iron rods paraded the streets. The processionists raised slogans against Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the postponement of the Assembly session. All vehicular traffic was off roads while all shops, commercial houses and educational institutions remained closed. — Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Lucknow] At least eight people were killed, and several others injured [in election violence] in the Northern Indian city of Aligarh today [March 2]....
