PESHAWAR: The city police on Monday apologised to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate for Senate polls Abbas Afridi for making a raid on his godown in a bid to foil a possible crystal meth smuggling bid.

A police spokesman said the raid was carried out on a cement godown located on the Ring Road.

He said acting on a tip-off about a possible crystal meth smuggling bid, police had set up snap checkpoints. He said somehow police personnel missed a double-cabin vehicle at the checkpoints and later got information that the vehicle had entered the said godown. He said after entering the premises, the police came to know about the former senator owning it. He said the police could not find the said vehicle on the premises.

“Police officers later apologised for the raid and left the venue,” he said.
