BAJAUR/DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A tribal elder was killed in a remote-controlled bomb blast in the Barang tehsil of Bajaur tribal district on Monday evening.

In another terrorist attack, motorcyclists hurled two hand grenades at a police checkpost in Muslim Bazaar area of Dera Ismail Khan city on Tuesday and fled. No one was injured in the attack.

The Bajaur bomb blast occurred in the hilly Asil Targaoo area, around 40km southeast of Khar, the main town of the tribal district.

The villagers said the bomb went off when tribal elder Malik Lal Said, 65, was returning home from a nearby small market.

They said the elder died of critical injuries on the way to the district headquarters hospital.

The residents said the deceased was a prominent elder of the region, who raised local issues at the relevant forums.

They said the blast was the first of its kind and had spread fear among them.

The residents demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of culprits.

The police said they had registered a case against unidentified assailants and launched a search for them.

GRENADE ATTACK: Motorcycles hurled two hand grenades at a police checkpost in the densely-populated Muslim Bazaar area of Dera Ismail Khan city on Tuesday.

No one was hurt in the attack.

A police official said only one of the two hand grenades exploded with a bang, while the other was defused by the bomb disposal squad.

The police cordoned off the area and began search for the terrorists.
