KARACHI: The Vatican on Thursday appointed a new archbishop in the archdiocese of Karachi.

After accepting the resignation of Cardinal Joseph Coutts of Karachi, who stepped down on reaching the retirement age of 75 last year, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Benny Mario Travas as the new archbishop elect of Karachi.

The newly appointed bishop was born on Nov 21, 1966 and ordained a priest on Dec 7, 1990.

The new archbishop elect of Karachi was educated at St Patrick’s High School in the city (class of 1982-83).
