PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has distributed relief items and money worth over Rs145 million in a month among the families directly or indirectly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The aid included Rs50.3 million for cash payment to 3,400 families at Rs15,750 per family, family hygiene kits worth Rs87 million and clean drinking water filters worth Rs6 million.

According to a press release, PRCS chairman retired Lt-Gen Mohammad Hamid Khan said the society was a supportive auxiliary body of the government to help people in difficult situations.

He said work done by the PRCS in helping people in different districts of the province during pandemic was commendable, which would continue into the next couple of months.

He also thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross, German Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross for ensuring the support during the coronavirus pandemic in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Talking to mediapersons, PRCS secretary Syed Ali Hassan said relief operations were completed in 15 districts, including Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan, Charsadda, Malakand, Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Chitral and three other tribal districts.

He added the affected areas were identified with the help of the district administrations to ensure transparency in distribution of aid. He said services of volunteers were also hired during the relief response.

During the last 10 months, Mr Hassan said the PRCS had provided direct assistance to 1.1 million families.
