Petrol smuggling

Published January 28, 2021

THIS refers to the editorial ‘Petrol smuggling’ (Jan 5). It is correct that Iranian oil is smuggled in jerry cans and tankers, and the activity can easily be monitored through satellites. It is baffling how smugglers continue to operate right under the nose of security agencies. Considering the profit margins in the smuggled Iranian oil, which are estimated to be well over Rs50 billion per year, one can imagine how difficult it is to stop smuggling altogether.

I hope the smuggling and illegal fuel stations are completely eliminated from the remote areas of the country so that the oil marketing companies’ fuel stations can be established there.
