KHYBER: The Khyber transporters have alleged that the Afghan traffic policemen are harassing them across Torkham border in retaliation to the local police’s increasing challans of Afghan drivers.

Addressing a news conference at the Landi Kotal Press Club on Monday, Haji Azeemullah, president of the local transporters union, said his colleagues had repeatedly complained about harassment and imposition of heavy fines by the Afghan traffic police, which had adversely affected cross-border trade at Torkham.

He also accused the local police of demanding illegal money from transporters to allow them cross the border out of turn.

He demanded of the Khyber police to show leniency to all the drivers taking trade goods to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, relatives of a retired army man in Jamrud have demanded immediate arrest of his killers. Speaking to mediapersons on Monday, Abdul Manan, brother of slain Lance Naik Latif Khan, alleged that his brother was killed during a jirga by Islam Mohammad, Junaid, Abid Khan and Wajid Khan on Dec 31, 2020.

He said the alleged killers were roaming free despite registration of a murder case against them.
