SWABI: A former local government member and Pakistan Tehreek-i-insaf leader along with two other colleagues was gunned down here on Sunday, the police said.

They said former Maneri union council member Qamar Zaman along with colleagues was on way to an undisclosed location in a car when unidentified attackers opened fire on the vehicle when it reached near Dr Muneer Hospital on the Swabi-Mardan Road.

Officials said the firing halted the traffic on the road and people ran for cover.

Qamar Zaman, who belonged to Gadwad Abad area of Swabi tehsil, Malik Said, and Taj Mohammad, a schoolteacher, died on the spot, and their forth colleague, Imran khan, was injured. The bodies and the injured were taken to the district headquarters hospital.

It was not immediately known as to who were involved in the attack, but police said Qamar Zaman had personal enmities.

FIR of the case was not registered till filing of the report at 4.30pm.
