KARACHI: Askari Alphas overcame stiff challenge from Usman Club to win 47-42 while Karsaz Mumbas edged past One Unit Club 54-52 in the ongoing 4th Commissioner Cup basketball tournament on Monday.

In the first match, Anas Usman put up a brilliant show for the winners Askari Alphas with 17 points. He was ably assisted by Usama Khurram and Sufwan Shah who scored 10 points each.

For the runner up Usman Club, Usman Khwaja (15 pts), Hasan Iqbal (12 pts) and Abdul Samad (11 pts) played well.

In the second match, Ali Hasan was outstanding with 20 points for the winners Karsaz Mumbas and scored four three-pointers. He was assisted Mohammad Asif Khan (18 pts) and Usama (10 pts).

For the losing side One Unit Club, the main scorers were Athar Zaidi (20 pts), Kashif Sarwari (18 pts) and Talal Ahmed (10 pts).

Director DMC South Asif Azeem was the chief guest on the occasion and was introduced to the players.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner Cup girls competitions will commence from Jan 14 and will be inaugurated by Asma Ali Shah, President of Asghar Ali Shah Foundation. Member POA environment commission Tehmina Asif will be guest of honour on the day.
