RAWALPINDI: A senior government official committed suicide by shooting himself in his house in Bahria Town Phase VIII in the limits of Rawat police on Tuesday.

SP Saddar Ziaul Haq told Dawn that the man was driven by some domestic issues to take his life.

He said circumstantial evidence and statements of the inmates showed that it was a suicide case, though the victim didn’t leave any note before killing himself.

“He had been in distress for last few days,” the SP said while quoting the family members.

Police said the man woke up in the morning and then killed himself in his bedroom. The body of the victim was handed over to his family after the postmortem.

Meanwhile, burglars broke into a jewellery shop in Dhamial in the limits of Sadar Bairooni police and escaped with a locker containing a large quantity of gold ornaments.

Rana Gulzar, the owner of Diamond Jeweller, in his complaint to the police said when he came to open his shop, he found the locks open and a locker containing 35 tolas of gold jewellery and 30 tolas of silver stolen by burglars.

Soon after the incident, a police team, led by ASP Saddar, and joined by forensic experts reached the scene and collected evidence.
