ISLAMABAD: Seven live hand grenades were found in an open area of a village in Bhara Kahu.

A police officer told Dawn that some villagers spotted a grenade lying in garbage and informed police, in response to which, a patrolling team reached the spot along with SHOs of Bhara Kahu and officials from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Bomb Disposal Squad.

He said a half open rusty box was also found there and wet grenades with mud around them were visible from it, adding, the area was cordoned off and a search of surrounding areas was conducted but nothing was found.

Ground levelling was conducted in the area a day before, he said, adding the box had apparently been buried and was exposed due to the levelling activity.

They seem to be locally made grenades and might have remained buried in the ground for quite some time, he said, adding the Bomb Disposal Squad confiscated the grenades and will submit a report in this regard.

Over the recovery, a case was also registered at Bhara Kahu Police Station for further legal procedure and investigation.
