ISLAMABAD: The appointment of renowned lawyer Naeem Bokhari as chairman of Pakistan Television (PTV) board of directors has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah will take up the petition on Thursday (today).

Arsalan Farrukh filed the petition through his counsel Raja Mohammad Shakeel Abbasi.

The petition termed the appointment of Shahzada Naeem Bokhari in violation of various verdicts of the honourable Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court which laid down clear guidelines for such appointments.

The petitioner pointed out that contrary to the direction of the apex court, the vacancy has not been advertised in the press and the appointment has been made without inviting applications for the vacant position.

He said the federal cabinet had relaxed the upper age limit for 65-year-old Bokhari, without mentioning plausible reason in the minutes of the federal cabinet meeting.

Naeem Bukhari is needed by this nation on this very post. He does not need us. We need him to improve quality of ptv which we watched fondly in ourr childhood. Why political interests are so strong that people like petetioner are cutting the roots of their own country exploiting name of law.

So the die hard who resist change and protect their own coveted appointment now raising questions about the new chairman. They know that their days are numbered. Its the same scene everyone else, PIA, Pakistan steel, Pakistan Railway and so on. All those who looted these organisations will start shouting now. Where were these questions when corrupt politicians were appointing their cronies in these organisations.

@Citizen, The only difference is that he takes no salary, no perks, doesn't abuse the system, is competent and educated, and will bring about change. He has not paid any money to be appointed and therefore is not there to make money or appoint his friends in certain positions.

@Chrís Dăń, That is the whole issue, all organisations are full of people appointed by corrupt politicians and they will not allow change. The same scene is played out in other organisations every day, all those appointed without merit crying and going to courts.

@Khaled. , in the presence of 90 other channels shouting day and night&propagating on their individual whims &presumptions,presenting no research programs having lousy anchors who shout 24/7and do not speak-PTV under the supervision of Naeem Bukhari who himself has media exposure &perhaps is the only speaker &not a shouter on screen &a an intelligent thinker too- he can bring forward some serenity and standard in tv programs.
