SAHIWAL: An eight-year-old girl’s body was found in a sack near her house in village 7/11-L on Saturday night.

Harappa Station House Officer (SHO) Imdad Baloch said police found multiple knife wounds around the girl’s neck and chest and suspected her throat had been slit. A case was registered on the complaint of her father, Naubahar.

Rukhsana had gone to a local shop to buy some candies around Saturday noon. When she did not return till 2pm, her parents started looking for her in nearby streets. Announcements were also made from village mosques after which Harappa police were informed of it.

Around 10:30pm that night, two unidentified men threw a sack near Rukhsana’s house that contained her body. Police sent the body for autopsy to the DHQ Teaching Hospital.

SHO Baloch told Dawn that police had detained some people and also identified the motorcyclists. Police feared the girl was murdered by her own family to implicate their rivals in the case.

Police were investigating Naubahar who had contracted a second marriage, and Rukhsana was his eldest daughter from his first wife.

INJURED: A woman allegedly injured herself and her minor daughter critically with a knife following a dispute with her husband over the phone. Rescue 1122 shifted both the injured to DHQ Teaching Hospital.

Family sources said Saima and Sohail had got married three years ago and Sohail had been working in Dubai for the last two years.

On Saturday night, the couple had an argument over the phone. In reaction, Saima allegedly injured herself and her three-year-old daughter with a knife. Farid Town police were investigating the matter.

RESULT: Chaudhry Tahir Bashir and Malik Muhammad Hussain Saghla won two seats from Sahiwal in the Punjab Bar Council elections by bagging 1,855 and 1,777 votes, respectively.

A total of 15 candidates contested on the two seats.
