LAHORE: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Thursday inaugurated the dual carriageway Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Underpass near Firdous Market in Gulberg.

He inspected the project and commended the workers for quality of work.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Buzdar said about Rs1bn had been spent on the 560 metre long underpass and around Rs130m were saved due to transparent tendering. He said the underpass would ensure a smooth flow of traffic between the Centre Point, MM Alam Road and Cavalry Ground. Around 100,000 citizens would benefit from this project every day while saving fuel worth millions of rupees annually, he claimed and added that special arrangements had been made at the underpass for quick disposal of rainwater.

The CM said the government had paid special attention to the development of the provincial metropolis and new projects would also be started to provide more facilities to the citizens.

Lahore Development Authority Director General Ahmad Aziz Tarar briefed the CM on the project details.

Provincial ministers Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed and Murad Raas, PTI Central Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhary, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, LDA Vice Chairman Sheikh Imran, the chief secretary, parliamentarians and others were also present.
